    PROCEDURES

    Activity 1

    ( 2 minute)

    Greet

    Introducting the name of lesson

    Show the picture:An old man lost his way.He’s going to the north.How does he go?Today we will learn a new lesson “Which way is north?”

    Activity 2

    ( 5 minute)

    Teaching words

    The teacher took the students to read,read each word three times.Read in groups,boys and girls.

    1.The teacher took out a magnet and asked the students “what’s on the magnet?”. Students will find “N” and “S”.  

    N——north 北      S——south 南

    2. T: Where else have you seen north and south?

            Compass  指南针

    T: What can you see on the compass?

            Needle   指针

    Activity 2

    ( 3 minute)

    Understanding compass

    1.T:The needle is very important to compass,let’s get to know it.

    T:The earth is a huge magnet,The compass needle will be  attracted to the north by the attraction of the geomagnetic field.So compass can be used to determine direction.

    Activity 3

    ( 10 minute)

    Use the compass correctly to find the north

    1.Ask the students to demonstrate the use of the compass and let the students sum up the methods of using the compass.

    1)Lay the compass horizontally.

    2)Wait for the needle to settle.

    3)Away from other magnets and magnetic objects.

    2.Use a compass to find the south and north of the classroom,at the same time,stick the card on the wall.Distribution of experimental materials to students after clarifying the rules.

    3.Summarize the south and north of the classroom.

    ( 16 minute)

    Making compass

    1. Teachers show experimental materials and demonstrates the steps of the experiment.  

    2. Ask students to read what they need to pay attention to in the experiment.

    3. Student experiments,teacher guidance.

    4. Summary report.

    1. T:How can we distinguish directions without a compass?

    2. Play video about finding direction by watch.

    3. Review words.

    听了游老师的这堂双语课,最大的感受是老师英语口语标准流利,学生配合度较高。个人认为双语科学课的目的不是用英语解决科学问题,而是英语配合科学进行教学,所以我觉得在某些部分,老师可以用中文对学生多加提醒,在实验的过程中鼓励学生多说新授词汇。
